Dog yawning – tiredness or stress relief?

Bailey and Tekeela yawn frequently. I normally associate it with them being tired. They yawn when they are resting and when we go out on walks. I was reading the other day about the theory that dogs yawn to reduce stress. According to this theory dogs have the ability to calm themselves during stressful situations through yawning… Then I took this video. Bailey and TeKeela go through their usual play (mouthing, chasing, barking, wrestling) then Tekeela stops and yawns. Is she yawning to try to calm Bailey or she is just tired? What do you think?

Woof! Woof! When I yawn it means I am tired and sleepy. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

I think there is more to yawning than just being tired. Our Dachshund yawns all of the time when she is in a car – which is not her favorite place to be.
